Eye-Fi card turns out to be a security gadget!!

June 6th, 2008

I didn’t see this coming when I blogged about the neat new Geotag Wi-Fi SD cards.

A thief stole a camera containing one of these cards and took a photo of himself, of course the card promptly uploaded the image and the location to the real owner’s PC via the web.

Fabulous!

Let’s keep the picture in the picture ….!!!

I’ve just read a 25 page guide on IP video from a large network company.

It was a good guide, well written, it provided good explanations on ethernet, IP, POE, cat5/6, etc.

The bizarre thing was, it never once referred to image quality or resolution.

It is all about the image – please keep that in mind!!

Geotagging photos wirelessly …..

May 22nd, 2008

Well, I bet you didn’t know this was possible:Eye-Fi Explore wireless 2GB SD card

You use this SD card in your digital camera, it works like a normal SD card for storing photos.

However, it also connects automatically to wireless hot-spots. It grabs a geotag from the first one it sees after you take photos, and uses the wi-fi connection to upload your photos to your online service and thence your PC.

Those photos will automatically have the geotag attached, showing where in the world they were taken.

All from a £60 memory card!

IP Video Door Entry System

May 17th, 2008

www.bellon.com.au

Another new IP product to catch my eye at IFSEC was this fully IP video door entry system from Australian company Bellon.

It looks really classy, think Bang & Olufsen style …..

It’s fully IP; outdoor panels and indoor handsets & monitors.

POE ready.

Colour video, audio, and access control.

No PCs or servers required, even the configuration is completed via the devices.

They claim that you can have an unlimited number of entry and apartment units.

A really nice IP networked product!
