Western Digital have in recent months expanded their Purple range of hard drives, designed for use within IP camera security systems. The new NV series comes in both the 4TB WD4NPURX model and 6TB WD6NPURX model, and they greatly increase the load-capacity of the previous Purple series drives by allowing support for up to 64 simultaneous HD-cameras recording via NVR. This is a big step-up from the previous maximum of 32 HD-cameras, and so makes them perfect for use within large security systems.
Unlike a traditional hard drive, the Western Digital Purple series is designed specifically with surveillance storage in mind. This means that they are designed to hold up under 24/7 usage, high temperature variances, and the continuous read/write operations that come with long-term video storage. The result is that they have a far longer lifespan than a conventional hard drive when used in this capacity, and a far lower rate of data-loss over time, meaning they’re excellent for ensuring that your footage is stored securely and fully.
On top of all this, they are also calibrated to ensure low power consumption, noise, and vibration, further extending their lifespan and making them a very safe purchase for both large and small security camera systems.
The full data sheet for the Western Digital Purple NV is available at the use-IP website, as well as the full WD Purple series currently available for purchase.
